Artist Statement

David Fayne
Growing up, the only class I focused more in art. I simply wasn't interested in anything else, it was my obsession. I picked up my first camera when I was 20, that’s when my passion for photography began. I immediately fell in love with all the details that go into creating a portrait such as, composition, lighting, contrast between my subjects and the background. I also found a wonderful joy and gratification in the idea of creating memories for my family and friends that they would treasure for a lifetime. Photography is a means of self-expression. I make pictures for myself, to identify with hidden qualities and the discreetness of my character.
Having engaged in mediums as diverse as printmaking, drawing, and graphic design, I have always been considered a well rounded artist. Photographs I take are seen through the camera, they are not manipulated in the darkroom or computer. I am often amazed at the shapes and forms that have appeared in my work. My intention has always been to explore the body, shapes, people's daily routines and human nature. I want to find the camera angle from which the forms can be the most expressive.
My photography preserves the essence of anything that is in front of my lens.  Not just taking photographs but capturing split second priceless moments as an art form that can’t be duplicated. For two years graphic design and photography are skills I perfected and what I love to do. My goal is to excel in photography as well as graphic design. Every new piece of art that I create must be better than the last. Creating identity and producing advertisements is my specialty and is something I enjoy to do because identity is a distinct personality which can’t be copied.
My influences are everything I see, feel and experience. Everyone that is a photographer or a graphic designer has influenced me in some way, but I’m mostly influenced by designs and photography found in magazines or the internet. Michael Sutton is a local photographer I can relate to and I feel is the best. His works speaks for its self.
